Are CMFAds Spikes Worthwhile?

CMFAds.com is an advertising website that allows bloggers a place to advertise on other blogs. It is a great community for these bloggers to learn from each other, share experiences, and network. CMFAds offers a feature called Spikes where a blogger or website owner can purchase traffic to their site. After purchasing the amount of traffic they desire, other users from CMFAds then visit the site. Why? They get paid for it.

So, I, Shy Girl, have thus decided to see how much this traffic is really worth. There are currently three different amounts of traffic that buyers can choose from: 10 cents for 25 clicks, 20 cents for 50 clicks, and 30 cents for 75 clicks. These visits are guaranteed to be from unique visitors. One thing about the spike program is unclear. When a buyer purchases multiple sets of "spikes" will the visitors across the board will be unique? For example, if I wish to buy 100 clicks for my motorcycle website I would want to purchase the 10 cent set and the 30 cent set. Will all 100 visits to my site be unique?

The Test
On ShyGirl, I currently make money from AdSense. Will I earn back the amount on AdSense with these viewers that I spent on the spikes? AdSense earnings are not of sole importance as comments, back links, post tweets, and program referrals are also something I would consider to be "income" on a site. My test is that if a user spends less than 5 seconds on this site, it was not worthwhile for that particular user to visit my site. However, if a user stays longer, that is great! For this test I will purchase 50 clicks. When the 50 clicks are received, I will then write up a review of the spike service. Also, if the campaign is financially worthwhile, I will run another test to see if buying multiple set of spikes results in 100% unique visits.

Hey there Shy Girl,

I got here from a spike too and CMF is not too shabby. You won't make a fortune out of it, but you can easily offset the spike purchase by clicking on spikes. So it kind of evens out at the end. Can't wait to check out your results. Later!

I'm the result of a spike too!

Spikes are great if you've got a new post to show off, but I don't buy them too often. I'd rather spend the $ on a campaign ad and get my site noticed by the wider community.

Hey - thanks for the post.

I can answer your question - if you buy some spikes, then later buy some more, you may get some repeat visitors. In theory you could buy many more spikes in one go to ensure the maximum number of unique visitors, but I think we'd need to get more members using CMF Ads before upping the limit. We could always look at adding a 40 cent price point and potentially adding further price points if that works out.

Hope you do well from the test. I actually came via the CMF forums - haven't clicked your spike yet.

I am another 'spike visitor' :-)
I too have been buying spike click, and I wonder if it is worthwhile. I am interested in knowing your results.

I would say its no..or let me rate it..6/10..

It just increases my bounce rate..the chances your articles are going to be read by them is minimal

Articles about CMF Ads give you usually some comments from the CMF members ;-) No surprise there!
And CMF admins are good commentators too if you talk about their website :P

Don't be disappointed when you write about other topics (no famous money making website or CMF ADS). In this case you won't see so much response from the members

Hi,

I also came from a spike. What you experimented here is very interesting. I've been thinking of using spike but put it on hold. With your results I'm more convinced to use it.
